the oakland and east bay hills are alive with redwood groves and acres of forests featuring hiking and biking trails offering bay views to run, wander and explore.

redwood regional park : Montclair/Oakland Hills

A vast 1,836 acres containing 100-ft plus second-growth redwood groves, other evergreens, chapparal and grasslands. Several staging areas including Redwood and Skyline Gates offering hiking, biking and equestrian trails; camping; a pool amid the redwood forest at Roberts; sand volleyball courts and picnic facilities. favs: start at the skyline gate staging area off of skyline boulevard. take the stream trail down to the french trail for a more strenuous hike down and back up through the redwoods eventually leading to the flatter west ridge trail. at the same gate to the left, you'll also find a flatter, more baby-friendly trail also favored by dog owners.

Tilden Park: Worth Crossing into Berkeley

One of the District's three oldest parks, Tilden has been called the jewel of the system, and its recreational activities have become a happy tradition for generations of East Bay youngsters. From a carousel ride and a picnic to a swim at Lake Anza and a stroll through the Botanic Garden, Tilden has variety to delight everyone. Yet there are plenty of quiet places in Tilden's 2,077 acres to shelter the wildlife and preserve natural beauty.

Joaquin Miller Park: Oakland Hills

Also located in the oakland hills, glimpse sweeping views of the bay and stop off for a picnic in the 500-acres of redwood groves, hiking and biking trails, and cascades; or visit the Woodminster Ampitheater for a summer musical.

The Montclair Village Trail: Montclair

this lovely montclair hills neighborhood trail is hidden parallel to shephard canyon road and provides a lovely wooded trail for a lazy walk, baby stroll or strenuous return jog (back up) from the village.

the entrance for the trail is near paso robles and shephard canyon. follow the signs to trailhead and you'll be dropped right behind the montclair village parking garage.

Sausal Creek (maps) : Dimond District

A great urban trail is tucked away near the Dimond District's Lion neighborhood pool. For more info visit: www.sausalcreek.org.

Claremont/Strawberry Canyons: Berkeley Hills + Claremont District

Amazing panoramic views of the bay and three bridges are your reward for this steep uphill climb behind the UC Campus. There are several trail entrances from Claremont to Strawberry Canyons within the neighborhood or off of Dwight Way beyond the track and swimming pools.
